INTRODUCING TIA AND WHY WE STARTED A PRO-AGING PODCAST

I don’t aim or strive to be living in a doctor’s office, taking 200 supplements, sitting in a hyperbaric chamber and doing red light facials all day. I want to be out living my life and I want to embrace the lessons and wisdom that come at every stage of my aging process while also caring for and being very present with myself.
— Dana Shultz

In the inaugural episode of 'This is Aging', we (Dana Shultz and Mellisa Reeves) introduce ourselves and share why we created a pro-aging podcast. We speak about personal experiences and fears about aging, and how dynamic the cultural and social influences can be on our beliefs about aging. We also share snippets of candid conversations with people on the street, as well as our own mothers about how they perceive their aging bodies and how that has influenced us. Every week we’ll have honest discussions about physical changes, longevity, health, midlife, sex, relationships, and career as we seek to embrace aging with curiosity and celebration.

Episode highlights

  • The backstory of our friendship and what led to starting this podcast! Also, why we think the world needs just one more podcast. :)

  • Snippets of eye-opening conversations we recorded on the streets of Austin - capturing how people at different stages of life really feel about aging.

  • Candid conversations with both of our moms about their feelings about aging, how they feel about their bodies, and what has influenced their beliefs and decisions as they’ve gotten older.

  • A cringe-worthy retelling of a clothing store change room meltdown

  • Our hopes for this community and a sneak peek of amazing conversations to come.

Your Hosts: Dana & Mellisa

She previously co-hosted the popular birth and motherhood podcast Motherbirth, and continues to facilitate transformational gatherings for women to reconnect with their bodies during the many transitions and challenges of life.

Getting older and eventually dying is not something new, it isn’t something broken. For some reason, how this whole thing was designed is that the body has this finite time period and that this experience of being in a body comes to an end. And so if we trust that there’s design in that and that there’s wisdom in that, what can the journey look like?
— Mellisa Reeves
